Considering buying beef from a farmer?

  • Well, the right size of freezer is a must! The convenience of having a fully stocked freezer for upwards a year is unbeatable.

  • Bulk beef pricing is based on hanging weight.

  • Absolutely! We can get you a few pounds of ground beef to try. Granted, there are so many more top quality Civil Sass cuts of meat yet this should get you drooling for more.

    If you love it so much and cannot wait for a bulk spot, swing by one of these retail locations to get your beef fix.

  • Your share will feature cuts from every part of the cow - the chuck, brisket, rib, shank, loin, short plate, flank and round.

    When placing your cut order, you can place a custom order. Or you can opt for our ready made Civil Sass Classic Cut order that was developed with Kyle, the head butcher at Burt’s.

  • For ideal quality, frozen beef is consumed within a year. Yet when packaged and stored properly, it can last longer. Read more here.

    Your bulk beef will come packaged in clear wrapping and very neatly labeled.

    The processor also offers vacuumed sealed packaging, if desired.

  • The beef selected for your share has been raised by us from birth to butcher. The calves are raised on our pastures, right alongside their mamas.

    When the days grow short and grass becomes sparse, our calves are weaned and finished on a protein focused diet that includes 90% of home raised ingredients, including corn, silage and hay. Amino acids and vitamins are also added into their rations.

    Jake’s dad likes to mention the beef are fed a little extra on Christmas and his birthday!

  • When purchasing bulk meat direct from a farmer, there are two payments. The first is to us, the farmer that raised the beef. This price is based on hanging weight.

    The second payment is to the processor and it due at the time of pickup. That price is based on packaged pounds. There is a base price per pound to process. Additional processing like grinding and smoking incur an additional cost.

  • You will pickup at Burt’s Meats in Eyota. This is a USDA certified facility and is family owned and operated.

    Meat will be packaged per your cut order and is frozen. Bring along coolers for ease of loading and unloading.
